You have this amazing opportunity to spend a few days away from the usual routine, exploring new places and meeting new people. But the problem is you need to pack light because it’s just for one night. That’s exactly what happened to me a couple months back. My best friend asked me if I wanted to go with her on an impromptu trip and I had about 15 minutes to find something to wear and pack my things for two nights somewhere else. Obviously, this isn’t ideal for any traveler but there are some precautions that will make your life much simpler in case of an emergency like this one. Here are 11 necessities you should always carry on a trip – even if it’s just for one night:

Travel towel A travel towel is a quick and easy alternative to a regular towel when you’re traveling. It’s quick-drying, lightweight, and easily packable, making it the perfect travel companion. You don’t have to bring a bulky towel from home, meaning you can bring more useful things in its place. Plus, a travel towel is usually less than $10, making it a great and affordable addition to your travel kit. If you want to go all out, you can also get a travel shower kit to go along with your travel towel. This will make it even easier to wash up while away from home. It’s a quick and easy way to feel a bit more at ease when you’re away from your usual comforts.

Shower shoes As strange as it may sound, bringing a pair of shower shoes is an excellent way to travel more light and clean. Yes, they are not very fashionable and they’re not something you would want to wear all the time, but they do the job. Plus, they are easy to find and quite cheap (usually less than $10). If you get a pair with a rubber bottom, it will be easy to clean them if you have to walk somewhere outside your hotel room. You can also use them for the gym, if your hotel has one. These are all great reasons to bring a pair of shower shoes with you when you travel. They’re cheap, simple, and easy to bring along. You’ll be happy you have them when you’re staying in a hotel that doesn’t provide towels.

A comfortable outfit A comfortable outfit is a necessity while traveling. Let’s be honest, you don’t know where you’re going to end up, are you going to be in a nice restaurant or an out-of-the-way dive bar? You don’t know. The only thing certain is that you won’t be wearing your nice clothes, you’ll be sporting your casual and comfortable outfit. Your casual outfit is also a great option if you decide to go exploring your new surroundings. You don’t want to be walking around in your fancy shoes and clothes in the middle of nowhere or in the middle of the night.
A COMFORTABLE OUTFIT
A cardigan or light jacket On average, you can expect to spend about 10 hours outside your hotel room. You don’t know what the weather will be like and if you’ll be exploring different climates. A cardigan or lightweight jacket is a perfect piece to pack for such occasions. It’s also very easy to fold and you can squeeze it in any corner of your bag. You can use it for layovers, exploring the new city, or if you decide to go out at night. You can use it to cover your shoulders if necessary. If you’re not a cardigan person, any type of light jacket will do. You’ll be able to adjust it depending on the weather and you can wear it in multiple situations.

A small cosmetic kit A small cosmetic kit is a necessity while traveling. You will not know where you’re going and what you’ll be doing while you’re out. You might want to go out for a night and you might want to put your hair up. You don’t want to walk around with your hair up every single day. It’s not sanitary. So, you can go out and about for nights and then put your hair up in the day time. You can go for a simple lip balm, a small amount of makeup, a small amount of nail polish (if you want to paint your nails), a small amount of hair ties, and a small amount of hair products. You can put them all in a small makeup bag and throw them in your purse.

A toothbrush and toothpaste Let’s be honest, you don’t know where you’re going to end up. You don’t know if you’re going to end up sleeping in a really nice hotel or if you’re going to end up sleeping on the floor in a couch-surfing host’s place. You don’t know if you’re going to have a bathroom to yourself or if you’re going to be sharing one with other people. You don’t know if you’re even going to have access to some toothbrush or toothpaste. You don’t know if you’re going to be able to go out and buy your own. You don’t know what kind of situation you’re going to be in. A toothbrush and toothpaste are necessities.
A TOOTHBRUSH & TOOTHPASTE
Dry shampoo and deodorant If you’re traveling and you don’t have time to wash your hair, you can use dry shampoo to help you out. Dry shampoo is easy to bring with you when you’re traveling and it’s an excellent way to stay fresh without washing your hair. Dry shampoo is something you can easily find in any store. You can use it in any amount you want. If you want to freshen up your hair, but you can’t wash it, dry shampoo is a quick and easy solution. Deodorant isn’t just for staying fresh. It can be used for any number of things. If you’re traveling and you don’t have time to shave, deodorant can temporarily cover the shadow on your legs or armpits.
